I present my entry for the P38 Lightning Spaceship Contest - The LL-38 (URL) One for the nostalgia buffs.> Cheers, Allister (21 years ago, 10-Feb-04, to lugnet.space, lugnet.announce.moc, lugnet.build.contests, FTX) !!

Re: LL38 - P38 Lightning Contest Entry —Tony Hafner
(...) (URL) Beautiful! This contest seems to be bringing out the best in everyone, and this is by far my favorite of what I've seen up to now. (2 URLs) AndroDan>> Tony Hafner (URL) www.hafhead.com> (21 years ago, 10-Feb-04, to lugnet.space, FTX)

Re: LL38 - P38 Lightning Contest Entry —Allister McLaren
(...) Gosh, thanks. I haven't built anything for a few weeks (renovating the Lego room), so I started this just to get my eye in again, before tackling my 'real' entry. The cockpit uses typical classic space styling, and came together very quickly. (...) (21 years ago, 11-Feb-04, to lugnet.space, FTX)

Re: LL38 - P38 Lightning Contest Entry —Larry Pieniazek
(...) That brought a tear to my eye. The retractable gear has to be my favorite bit, although "Red" the pilot is a close second. Very well done! Spotlighted. (21 years ago, 10-Feb-04, to lugnet.space, FTX)

Re: LL38 - P38 Lightning Contest Entry —Ted Welsh
(...) Allister--you made Larry cry! Shame on you! -Teddy (21 years ago, 11-Feb-04, to lugnet.space, FTX)

Re: LL38 - P38 Lightning Contest Entry —Tim Courtney
(...) Wow, is that a first? I've seen Larry whine before, but never cry. <gdr> :^D -Tim (21 years ago, 11-Feb-04, to lugnet.space, FTX)

Re: LL38 - P38 Lightning Contest Entry —Larry Pieniazek
(...) I said it brought a *tear* to my eye. The surgeon tells me the rip will heal nicely... No one said anything about crying. (21 years ago, 11-Feb-04, to lugnet.space, FTX)

Re: LL38 - P38 Lightning Contest Entry —Allister McLaren
(...) I spent the longest time working on the landing gear - mostly because they were put in after the fuselage had been built, and I hadn't left enough room for them. The red Classic Space fig was always my favourite as a kid. I never had a blue or (...) (21 years ago, 11-Feb-04, to lugnet.space, FTX)

Re: LL38 - P38 Lightning Contest Entry —Theodore Sammis II
(...) What a great idea! Maybe it's a little big for a P-38, but sometimes bigger is better ;) You've definitely raised the bar in the contest. TRS (21 years ago, 11-Feb-04, to lugnet.space, FTX)

Re: LL38 - P38 Lightning Contest Entry —Allister McLaren
(...) Well, nothing in the rules says it has to be the same size as the real one. Nothing's stopping anyone from making a tri-fuselage capship. Besides, a typical singe seat space vehicle is by necessity going to be larger than an atmospheric craft. (...) (21 years ago, 11-Feb-04, to lugnet.space, FTX)

Re: LL38 - P38 Lightning Contest Entry —Nathan Proudlove
(...) Dude, that's Aaa-mazing! I love it! I was originally thinking of doing Classic Space but went with IP2002 instead. Hats off to ya! Nathan Proudlove (21 years ago, 11-Feb-04, to lugnet.space, FTX)

Re: LL38 - P38 Lightning Contest Entry —Allister McLaren
(...) Thanks. I only built this because I was having a touch of builders block. When that happens, it's best to just start building something, and Classic Space, even after a 20 year dark age, is still something I can almost do blindfolded. Cheers, (...)         Re: LL38 - P38 Lightning Contest Entry —Gil Shaw
(...) I want this. I'll push all the family photos off the mantle and put this on a little pedestal with a plaque: 'Old Glory Rediscovered'. Awesome tribute build Allister. Cheers, -G (21 years ago, 11-Feb-04, to lugnet.space, FTX)

Re: LL38 - P38 Lightning Contest Entry —Allister McLaren
(...) It's a funny thing about classic space. It's a fairly clunky style without any particularly cunning building techniques using fairly basic pieces, but it seems to be the one theme that is loved by everyone. Building this was a deliberate ploy (...) (21 years ago, 11-Feb-04, to lugnet.space, FTX)

Re: LL38 - P38 Lightning Contest Entry —Allister McLaren
(...) Yeah, I saw yours on the contest page. Neat. You went with a p-38 version of 891 whereas I went more with a 928/918 version. (...) I did try to restrict parts usage to parts from the era, but sometimes you just gotta do ;), and parts like the (...) (21 years ago, 16-Feb-04, to lugnet.space, FTX)
