   Hi All,

My latest MOC is Archer I, a deep space probe (DSP) launched by T-SEC to study stars, planets and comets in galaxies far, far away.

Archer I

Main Folder

It’s shape and design is very loosely based upon the Magellan probe.

Archer I is equipped with several long range sensors and scanners, primary and secondary propulsion/navigation thrusters, two solar panels for power, a high resolution dataphoto photoprocessor, and an data transfer dish.

PLMKWYT, and don’t be afraid to criticize.

Nathan,

This looks good, but I have a few comments. You might want to add another power source, solar panels don’t work great far from the Sun (Galileo and Magellan used little plutonium pods and thermopiles, IIRC).

Hmm...that’s a good idea. I’ll add that to one of my updated probes.

How about adding a few droppable probes, for more interest? Or having a few booms come out with more probes and dishes on them.

Hey, that’s a great idea!

One thing about deep space probes is that there’s no one to fix them, and you don’t want a failure of one component to jeapordize the mission (was it Galileo that ended up using a secondary antenna to pass data along, as the main one was jammed). So, adding secondary components, and making them dual use is an established good precedent.

Wow, thanks fo all this info. This’ll really help me later with other probes.
