I'm often asked how my latest mecha or space build went and many times I reply
that it just didn't work out and that the item in question has become a
prototype. Until now, I really didn't have a way to explain what thet meant.

There are days when I'll sit around the workshop and just build cool shapes aka
prototypes. I might have a final idea in mind of what I want to accomplish or I
might not, but I always like to build something. These are those somethings.

I'll be posting a great many more prototypes over the next few weeks, but I
figured that even if these ideas don't pan out for me, perhaps they might work
for someone else or inspire someone else to build. My prototypes are your
prototypes. I hope you find these useful or at the very least entertaining.

The other section of Prototyping that I'll be adding is the Applied Prototypes
aka finished models that used one or more of these designs in a useful or
beautiful way. They will be posted here starting later tonight:

Oh, and one last thing. I was asked whether or not I'd be revealing all of my
current prototypes. The answer to that is a resounding 'NO'. 95% of them will be
posted in those folders, but I will be keeping a few pictures around for
projects I'm currently working on that I'd rather not give previews of.

Thanks for looking!

(...) This is really fascinating stuff, Dave! Thanks for sharing. I thinkn I'll be spending as much time checking these out as I do Paul Hartzog's "ideas" BS folder. I especially liked this idea: (URL) I can't wait to see how they've worked out in (...) (21 years ago, 30-May-03, to lugnet.build.mecha, lugnet.space, FTX)
