That wasn't what I meant to imply at all,

ok, thanks for clarifying... I hope you can see why I thought that's what
you meant.

I had been reading the whole string, and as I went further and further,
it became more of a "Hey, glad to see you posted again, here's what you need
to fix," session than commending the good stuff he did. I'm in the art field
myself, so I know how it goes, but also know that its easy to become
discouraged if you're bombarded with ONLY suggestions for improvement. I'm
just trying to suggest that we find a balance.

okay... wait.

Only one person in the whole thread made a negative comment without making
equally positive comments first.

Go look at the responses... if you want *balance* let's break it down:

Dan's original post has 33 responses.  32 of them are *overwhelmingly*
postive.  People bow to him, tell him he is the best... etc...  and he
deserves all of it IMHO.  I know how much work goes into a ship like that.
But I don't see this huge backlash of people telling him how to improve you
reference.

but there's one post left... is that a blow to him?  no.

Yes... Jon isn't positive about the ship at all, but he does offer very
specific reasons why.  Dan himself said that critical feedback is good if it
is specific.  Quoting Dan:

Regarding feedback, I'd like to add that I think constructive feedback that
is specific and offers some suggestions on possibly improving an MOC is
good.

so how in the world is that (in your words) BOMBARDMENT!?!  32:1... I *wish*
I was "bombarded" by 96.9% postive commentary on a daily basis!

<:D

After all, as Jon and Joel have pointed out, we do come here for a sense
of community in the hobby we all love, and to share our creations with each
other. I'm just trying to make sure that people don't get discouraged and
decide to stop sharing.

well, I think we all can agree... it would be terrible if anyone left
because they became discouraged by negative comments... but I haven't seen
anyone tell anyone else to stop building or sharing.  The whole gist of
Jon's post was that he wanted to see MORE of Dan's work.  That's why you
give suggestions...  If you want someone to go away you don't give them
feedback on how to improve.

spacecheers!
Jk

Alright... you made your point. Guess I read them with a different tone in my head... dunno. Hope we can just let this drop now... I'm thoroughly tired of discussing it now. On the bright side, I can now say that my first post to Lugnet at least got (...) (22 years ago, 15-Feb-03, to lugnet.space)
