You could probably adapt the landing gear from my Apollo to have wheels
instead of the 2x2 slope bricks I used:
http://www.band.calpoly.edu/~tsciorti/apol_5.jpg (down)
http://www.band.calpoly.edu/~tsciorti/apol_6.jpg (folded up)
The trick would be to have them fold out from the center and have them open
out to more than vertical, just like I have done, so that way, they would
stay open when it's on the ground. It's a pretty compact design (which I
borrowed from someone a long time ago - don't remember who) and they also
stay put as long as you pinch all those technic bushings on there nice and
tight. As for the front gear, you could use the same idea - have it open
forward or backward, but make sure it opens up to more than vertical, so
that the weight of the model keeps it open.
My Kestrel also has retractable gear, but they would be much harder to adapt
since the only reason they stay put is because it's a helecopter and it's
not meant to move forward or backward.
Good landing gear designs are kind of hard to come by - I'd like to see what
you come up with, so be sure to keep us updated. :)

| Hello All, I can't seem to building wheeled landing gear that retract into my space ship. Any ideas? Any pictures? (22 years ago, 23-Aug-02, to lugnet.space)
