I tried to give it the same sleek, simple appeal of the Manta but with a
little more muscle.

Not sure how I could remove them and leave the gray ones in place. The black
wedges are not meant to define that area in between gray as empty. You have
to imagine a black honeycomb kind of gridwork there. The inspiration is from
the warp nacelles on the movie Enterprise model (i.e. Star Trek I, II, III
etc). The scoop in the front was black between the frame, unlike Classic
Trek or Next Generation with rounded red scoops.
