I'm very sorry, I've misinformed you. The set you were referring to has the
Scout, the 9754 has the MICRO Scout. The Scout has an IR interface and is
more capable, programmable via the RCX SDK, and has sensor inputs.
The Micro Scout has only the light sensor and 8 built-in program, of which
the 8th is alterable. The Scout is as versatile as a mini-RCX, while the
Micro Scout only lets you trigger predefined motor movment and sound
melodies by plashing light at its normal light sensor.
I just ordered another 9754 anyway (arrives on thursday with $200 worth of
great sets - life is good...), because it has many useful parts for bracing,
making gearboxes, etc. And it's great value now that Lego has halved the prices.
The 9735 is "not available in my country" according to Lego World Shop. :'(
