I must have run into this problem before (and forgot about it). I was
looking through the NQC source code for using the USB tower and noticed
that the Mac OS X version of NQC supports an options -Susb:short which
will use the USB tower in short range mode, which seems to do a lot
better for communicating with the Scout.
I don't know if there's any way to control the tower's range
programmatically under Windows. If someone knows the trick, let me know
and I'll add the usb:short option to the Win32 version of NQC as well.

| Thanks for the tips. The first time i use the :short option, it worked perfectly, but it hasn't worked again. I must have hit on the exact right distance/position by dumb luck. Oh well. I'll keep trying and post my findings. (...) (22 years ago, 15-Aug-02, to lugnet.robotics.scout)
