I took a look at the Scout SDK License Agreement and I didn't see
restrictions on other platforms but it says that you may not "create
derivative works based upon the software". This seems to be a
contradiction because the SDK includes the program ScoutDOS.exe that
they say "can be used as a back-end for other programming systems".
I know nothing about copyright law but I can assume that the
restrictions are there for the following reasons:
(To prevent someone from developing software based on the Scout SDK...)
[1] for monetary profit.
[2] that uses the communications protocol to control non LEGO products.
The LEGO Group seems to be accepting of other programing environments
for the MindStorms line as long as the software doesn't use LEGO
trademarks or gives the impression that it is endorsed by The LEGO
Group.
Of course this is all just speculation though.

| I was thinking of the same sort of thing for NQC too. However that means I would have to implement NQC on the Palm as well. For the Scout I would have add the Scout tool translator to the Palm. Another possiblity is the pollm command. I've still to (...) (25 years ago, 23-Nov-99, to lugnet.robotics.scout)
