Firmware download is not working. I'm sorry but I never tried this with
the first release. A second problem is that it gives no error message if
the
firmware download fails. I got suspicious because the download was too
fast and the LCD was not counting.
I will debug this later but first some observations. There are many
failure modes. It seems like each time I run it something different.
Here are three sequences:
1) status bar ays deleting firmware
2) Status bar says console ready
1) Status bar says deleting firmware
2) about 1 line of garbage shows up in the
console window
3) status bar says console ready
1) Status bar says deleting firmware
2) Status bar says loading srec 0
3) Long pause
4) Screen fills with garbage
5) Status bar says console ready.
Sometimes I remove batteries first and sometimes not. I will
try to characterize this better.
I mostly selected download firmware but tried fast download once
with no success.
When I download with legos/firmdl3 it works fine and I get forth
running.
Questions:
Most of the data I see in the window has the high bit set. Isn't
the srec download sending srecords in clear text?
How the heck does the delete firmware sequence work when forth is
running? Isn't forth going to try to execute that string? I have
often wished for a forth word or key sequence that deleted forth.
Is this using some secret undocumented method?
Where is the protocol for srec download documented?
does the fact that there are no reported errors mean that the
tower echoed the data sent? Why does it sometimes not send the
whole srec file (based on time) but not complain?
