Sorry, I didn't understand (or read) your message well,
I thought you were looking for communicating with a PC.
Well as far as my knowledge reaches, I agree with Dave, the RCX can't receive raw data
(except for program downloading, which is packed as a whole).
I think you should use an other operating system, like Legos (or crack the firmware)?
Why do you want to communicate with raw data, is the speed to slow ?
I myself found the IR possibilities quiet limited. I'm working at the moment on a
general purpose IR-module, which can work on one side as a PC-IR-tower, and on the
other hand can work as a sensor / actuator for IR communicating (remote audio / video
controling by the RCX is my first goal).
