I have been following this thread with great interest for two reasons.

One day, someone will be persuaded to provide me with direct help and
assistance in getting BrickOS running on my laptop - perhaps at BW or BF.

I have built quite a few prototype RCX alternatives and that has required
extensive investigation to ensure that the sensor ports are 100% RCX
compatible, especially in active mode.

I note that in your description of the active sensor power and sample
timing, you give the impression that you are only sampling one sensor per
power interruption. Is this correct?

Does this mean that you can interrupt the power to each sensor individually
in the RCX? In which case this is a good thing since the average power to
the sensors will meet or exceed that provided by the standard firmware.

If you cannot and you are removing power from all sensors even though you
are only sampling one per time, then the average power to the sensors will
now be decreased becuase you have to have three times as many settling times.

Some sensors are right on the ragged edge of providing enough power storage
to "flywheel" over these interruptions and so I am concerned that these
sensors may fail if starved of power.

(...) What OS are you using? How far have you got? Max. (22 years ago, 19-Jan-03, to lugnet.robotics.rcx.legos)

(...) Yes. (...) individually (...) That's right. (...) I agree. With the current firmware, power gets cut off to all 3 sensors for ~85us (sometimes longer). With the scheme I mentioned, power would be cut to only one sensor for ~25us. The sample (...) (22 years ago, 19-Jan-03, to lugnet.robotics.rcx.legos)

Joe, Great job on taking the bull by the horns! The following are my suggestions on a system configuration. Please note that the term "divider" is being used here to indicate the function should only be performed every Nth interrupt. OCRA interrupt (...)
