I am not a lawyer, but I have been interested in license issues for some
time. Because LegOS is basically a library and not really an OS, and
because it is compiled in with the rest of your code, technically
speaking you must release code to anyone you release binaries to. If I
recall correctly, there are a couple of exceptions:

1) Of course, Marcus, as the license holder, could give you permission to
do so.\
2) If you do not release the binaries publicly (i.e., you release them
only to co-workers or fellow students) then you are under no obligation
to release the code publicly.

A caveat: these are all true of the GPL. I believe the MPL (in these
regards) is identical to the GPL. However, I am not sure and may be wrong.

Finally, I have to ask: why would you not want to release .srecs
publicly without releasing the code? I assume you aren't seeking to
profit from the binaries, so I don't understand what motivation there
would be to obscure the source from the rest of the LegOS community.

Hope that answered your questions and hope you answer mine-

Are there any limitations/restrictions on releasing legOS compiled programs
(.srec files)?

I'm aware that legOS itself is MPL (Mozilla Public License), but are the
programs that are compiled with it, and contain a portion of it, subject to
open source requirements, etc?

In other words, if I release a program do I have to release the source code?

Thanks.
