No idea why that wouldn't work, it always has for me. I hold down prgm and
as soon as I hit on/off, there's a little beep and the thing shuts off.
When I turn it back on, it's back to the regular stuff.
Of course, you can always try taking out a battery for a little while.
That ought to work fine if the buttons don't deliver for some reason.
