Not exactly....  The output is an analog voltage, meaning it's not exactly
a digital TTL 0 volts or 5 volts, but ranges from 200mv (call this low) to
Vcc-200mv (call this high).  But this is a PWM output, meaning that with
the chip stationary with normal gravity, the duty cycle is 50% (1 ms low, 1
ms high for example).  Any change due to (and only during) acceleration
will show up as a change in duty cycle (0.5 ms low, 1.5 ms high for
example).  While you can apparently set the base clock duty cycle to be as
long as 10ms, you still have to measure two channels (x and y).  I don't
think the RCX is capable of the timing required to do this, so it's going
to be necessary to use an external micro.

Sorry for my ignorance, but doesnt the datasheets mention that it
contains both analog and digital outputs and either may be used.

From looking at the data sheets, it's going to be a bit more of a • project
than just "hooking it up".  At a minimum you'll need to have a small • micro
to decode the dual PWM outputs, and they (AD) have a data sheet • describing
the use of a Parallax Basic Stamp.  There will be a lot of algorithm
development to turn the acceleration data into something useful, like say
inertial navigation, and you'd eventually need a gyro to deal with • rotation
in the x-y plane.  It would be an interesting project.

My two Cents,

Hi,

I just order two free samples of Analog Devices ADXL202E at
http://products.analog.com/products/info.asp?product=ADXL202.  Anyone
know if this can be hooked up to the RCX?
