Okay. No rotten tomatoes, but this post is slightly outside the scope of this
newsgroup. However, I really think that the interest in a question like this
is going to be high, so here goes.
Browsing WinAmp's plugin page, I found a snazzy little gadget called the irMan
that allows you to control WinAmp (and, incidentally, lots of other stuff on
your PC) using a plain vanilla IR remote control.
<http://www.winamp.com/customize/detail.jhtml?componentId=2596>
These folks sell an IR transceiver tower that plugs into a serial port bundled
with a WinAmp plugin and some other ancillary software to program the system
to recognize the particulars of your remote control's signals. It only took
me a couple weeks of thinking "Hey, that's pretty cool!" to figure out that
I've already got an IR transceiver sitting on my desk, and I've already got a
remote control I can use.
My question is this: is anyone aware of a WinAmp plugin (or even a Windows
TSR or something) that would take input from the Mindstorms IR tower and allow
remote control of the PC?
Before you throw MORE rotten tomatoes, I'll go ahead and ask the corollary
question for Linux and Mac users. Anybody have any idea whether such software
exists? I'm certainly far from being a good enough programmer to write stuff
like this, but perhaps somebody could point me in the right direction.
Best regards,
Lee Gibson
