Hmm, this is interesting.  The capabilities that aren't used by the current
firmware are very curious.

I can see the purpose of multiple sprites and draw modes though.  With that, you
could do masked graphics.  A mask sprite would be drawn first to CLEAR a
particular shape of pixels, then a second sprite would be drawn with OR (i.e.
set, but don't clear, pixels) to appear neatly within the cleared outline.  No
glaring rectangular edges or nasty semi-transparent merges.

Although it's expandable, it doesn't look like it has scope for really making
the best use of a second bitplane though..?
