      Well, I haven't looked at the sonar routines, but my guess is that 17 feet 
round trip at around 1ms / foot each way is close to 32.768 ms, which is 
when the 16 bit timer in the 6811 overflows (the 6811 clocks the 16-bit 
counter at 2 Mhz). 
 
One idea is to measure the number of milliseconds that have passed to the 
nearest multiple of 32.768 ms, and add that to the reading.
