Is the Handy Board compatible with Windows ME?

I have a Gateway Performance (933Mhz) using Windows Millenium Edition. The
Handy Board works on other computers (work, school, etc) but not with this one.
I follow the HyperTerminal steps & get the message:
"Unable to open COM1. Please check your port settings"
I checked with Gateway & the 9 pin serial port is COM1.
Any ideas?
