You could just get an adapter that is rated for a lower voltage. Try a
nine volt adapter or a universal one that you can experiment with.

Perhaps I should just stick to 9.6V, and add resistors to the motors I'm
trying to run, and make life easier for myself!  :-)

Or just use different motors.  ;-)
