Another thought, how about a series of expander boards. I know this
could get really ugly, but, maybe Fred, and the normal HB distributors
build what they see are appropriate for their customers, and others
build what is appropriate for their customers.
Expander #1: The current design
Expander #2: Buncha serial IO
Expander #3: More IO (decoded A and D lines) and the rest be giant
proto area.
These could be designed to be stacked (probably not the greatest
idea), or specifically used singly.
(Personally I want the current design, I really want to start messing
with the Polariod sonar module).

| (...) You might want to note that the unexpanded HB is capable of driving a Polaroid sensor. The second motor chip is removed, and lines are plugged into different pins for the BINH and INIT signals, while the ECHO signal goes to the first digital (...) (29 years ago, 22-May-96, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)
