I've built a few of his machines myself.  The "Neural Net" is a 74ls244
set up as a shift register with RC networks between each stage.  The
walkers go forward ok, but can't turn or back up.  Mark Tilden's very
talented at mechanical design, though!

I saw a program on robotics a while ago on Discovery, and there was a guy
who builded a complete zoo of robots consisting of only a couple of
transistors. They did move indeed, but he said they were adapting to • their
environment, which I find hard to believe.
