Bill,

BB> Does anyone know of UK suppliers for Handy Board PCBs and/or
BB> component kits.
I looked around a bit for a UK supplier too and found.. well, zip,
nothing. So eventually I ordered a Handyboard PCB from Douglas
Electronics in California. Cost was $24 (for the HB + charger/interface
board) + $3 P&P = *16-*18 ish. It took about a week to get here and I am
very impressed with the quality of the PCB indeed.

I'm slightly ticked off though, since today I had a look at the HB
website and found a reference to something called the "Fingerboard"
which is kind of like the HB without a few things. Since my application
is a 6-legged robot with RC servos and quite a bit of additional
circuitry anyway, the Fingerboard would have been a lot better because
it doesn't include the DC motor drivers which I don't need anyway, and
it's VERY nice and compact. And all of the ports are brought out to
expansion connectors too.

So, if you're just needing a *one off*, perphaps you'd like to buy my
(still sealed in the plastic wrapping!) Handyboard PCBs, for say, 15 or
16 quid or so (they are brand spanking new of course)? Then I can go
with the Fingerboard and the world will definitely be a much happier
place. Postage should be easy since I'm in the UK too [just down the
road from you in Northumberland actually!] - and you wouldn't have to
wait a week either.

BB> Do I spot a business opportunity ?
In terms of mass producing the boards, there are many PCB houses around
the UK who might do it I suppose - I'm not sure about licensing/royalties/
commission etc. though, but maybe if the demand was great they could
churn the things out like Douglas Electronics in the US does?

Anyway, let me know what you think, and if you want my HB+charger PCBs
drop me a line (soon) since I'm really very taken with the Fingerboard
at the mo'...
See ya
-Dave
