Hello again,
I realized a solution to the amplified input problem that is simple and
at least worth mentioning. A diode clamp (0-5V) does the job quite nicely, and
is easy to build. I got the idea from Horowitz and Hill, "The Art of
Electronics", Cambridge University Press, p.50. Who knows if that will end up
being the system that I use; I am considering all of the suggestions.
