Just a note of encouragement... I had never built anything
like the HB before (I'm a software type guy), but thanks to Fred
Martin's concise instructions I had no problems.
What really helped me were a
few simple tips on soldering from a friend. Basically what everyone
else has already told you here. Just make the point of the low wattage
iron contact both the pad on the board, and the pin of the component.
Then basically stick the thin solder in between the two, and the solder
should wick in. If it's not working well, you may need to hold it there
for 1 or 2 seconds to ensure it's hot enough. And also make sure the tip
of the iron is always shiny clean.
After those simple tips, I was a soldering madman. And it came out
looking really nice, and works perfectly.
You'll do fine...
