Hi,

This question doesn't really belong to this mailing list, but since some of
you know quite a lot about microcontrollers I thought maybe someone could
help me.

I'm working on a project about A Management System for an Optical network.
Therefore I'm going to create a microcontroller network. The problem is: I
can't find the microcontroller that satisfies my needs.

I'd like a microcontroller which has the following properties:
- Serial and I2C bus
- A/D converters
- on chip flash/EEPROM program memory (A few KB's would do the job I think,
but the more the better)
- Serial programming (so I don't need programming devices, like with my HB)
- a DIP or PLCC package
- It shouldn't be too expensive

There's 1 chip which has this properties, the Philips 89CE558, but this
chip is quite expensive, and worst of all it's an SMD chip which won't fit
a socket. This makes it almost inpossible to experiment with it. And even
more difficult to make a PCB for it here....

Is there anyone who has any suggestions. A few external devices would be
acceptable, but I don't prefer that of course.(an external I2C chip for
example wouldn't be a large problem.

I like motorola, but couldn't find anything there.....or is it me?

Any help is really appreciated.

Greetz,

Bastiaan Jansen

If you can use an I2c chip, then the Motorola MC68HC11E2 has 2k of EEPROM and costs about 8-10 dollars. You can try contacting Motorola for samples if you are a student I have heard they are free. You need a school letterhead signed by a proffessor. (...) (27 years ago, 11-Apr-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)
