Your tests, specifically the fact that the HB's PWR LED comes on after
download fails, demonstrate conclusively that the HB can *receive*
data from your PC.
This proves that the downloading software is able to open the serial
port properly, and that the electrical connection from the PC to the
Handy Board is good.
The communication the other way (HB to PC) may be bad.
Do you have another HB interface, HB itself, or set of cables you can
use to debug the situation?
