Sorry for cross posting this but... I tried many times to *post* to the
lugnet._______@lugnet.com mailling lists scheme but never worked.

I'm tired of going to the http://news.lugnet.com/news/post/setup/ setting
things up, all goes well at the web side, but I always get the "441 New
Users Start Here:" email reply and... well I gave up :( argh... I like the
simplicity of lego-robotics@crynwr.com best.... call me squared old fashioned.

This was one of many messages sent originally to
lugnet.robotics.cybermaster@lugnet.com

The CyberMaster doesn't support the Message() command family.

I think the best way to simulate this, is to reserve a variable (ex: 0 or
31) for the only purpose of beeing set by the PC (using spirit.ocx or
whatever). Then, the CyberMaster(s) will poll that var for values different
from, say, -1, and respond to them like it would do with messages in a RCX :)

This technic can be done from PC to CM and the other way around, if needed,
reserving a variable to be pooled by the PC program to react accordingly.

I'm going to use this with my PC->CyberMaster->RCX setup, using the
CyberMaster as a RF receiver to pass along "messages" to the RCX through my
mcVLLlib.ncq

mc. (Tired of fighting with news-problems@lugnet.com)

The only command that does not require any responses is Send Message (a.k.a.
Set Message), and this is perhaps the command that you will use the most.

To get the status of each robots, you can poll them one by one, like this:

PC: Send Message 1 (meaning: Robot 1, how are you?)
Robot 1: Send Message 51 (meaning: Robot 1 is fine.)
PC: Send Message 2 (Robot 2, how are you?)
Robot 2: Send Message 52 (Robot 2 is fine.)
... etc. ...

This post is just an idea. I have not tried it myself. Will it work?

(...) And it will be necessary to change the CyberMasters to use different radio frequencies, then. Otherwise when PC try polling, everybody will respond at the same time. Cheers, Hao-yang Wang (24 years ago, 5-Feb-01, to lugnet.robotics, lugnet.robotics.cybermaster)
