The codepilot was available in set 8479.
To program it you swiped it across various bar codes. I don't own an RCX, so I
can't give you a detailed comparison. From what I understand, the codepilot
is/was more difficult and more time consuming to program, and not as versatile
as the RCX.
I don't believe they have put the unit in anything other than that one set from
1997, so you'll probably have to check ebay or similar if you want to get one.
