Hi,

3 weeks ago I started reading this newsgroup/mailing list. Yes, I
readed all 9000+ postings. And one thing is that many of you do 'full
qoutes'.

Hmm.. Just to nitpick the nitpicker.. "readed"? And why is this going to just
lugnet.robotics? 9000+ postings in 3 weeks? I think there's only been maybe
1000 at most posts to robotics over the last 3 weeks, so I'm assuming either
you're addressing the majority of LUGNET or you've read half of the Robotics
posts to date (meaning all posts back to... roughly 7-8 months ago)? You
probably intended to post to lugnet.general? (more on that later)

Why? The only polite reason for me is: You don't know, how to quote.

And just to ultimately nitpick again "You don't know, how to quote."... an
overuse of the comma?

This is what I found on http://www.newbie.net/Newbie_Pages/new41.html

Quote only the parts you want to discuss, with your questions or
comments following each segment. If you post an answer without the
question, other people will have no idea what you are talking about.

If you quote an entire message in order to reply to a small part of
it, other people have to wade through the whole message to determine
what it is about.

Often times I leave other sections of text in to provide a bit of background to
my replies. Of course, it depends greatly on the content of the prior post and
my reply, but occasionally, I like to think that people with slow modems/etc.
have the ability to learn a bit of history of what I'm replying TO without
having to go and reload the preceeding message. However, when done too often,
this leads to larger pages, and useless text. So, I try to use discretion, or
I'll edit out some/most of the message I'm replying to.

And please, put one blank line between your text and the others text.

Thank you

Stefan Krister

Warning- you may be flamed. I don't think there is a "correct" way to format
replies, although to some minor degree there is a preferred form. I appreciate
your suggestions, and even agree with you insofar as that it is generally MY
preferred method of replying. However, some people may take offense at your
suggestion.

Group appropriateness- I'm not really sure where this topic belongs, but
lugnet.robotics is probably not the right place. I assume, as above, that your
intended audience was all of LUGNET, not just the robotics group (although this
is not perfectly clear.) Offhand, I think lugnet.off-topic geek or
lugnet.publish may be more appropriate...

Anyway, I'm re-routing followups to lugnet.publish... although there's
certainly potential here to lead to off-topic.debate.
