Hey! That battery case can be a very useful way of energizing motors
in part built mechanisms. Cranking up the RCX just to forward and
reverse a motor is not always that handy!

Like someone else posted few weeks ago, if you don't want that
funny white gear ...

Hi.

Excluding the $15.75 motor, the remainder of the set costs $0.45 a part.
Excluding the $12.25 battery case as well (which holds six AA cells just
like the brick) the set costs $11.75 for 52 parts at $0.23 per part which
is not a stunning deal. Since the battery case is probably useless, you
are really looking at $0.45 a part.

Now. What is this clutch gear that everyone is so excited about? I looked
at the pictures on the on-line catalogue and couldn't see anything that
wasn't already familiar. Maybe I am missing something.

This clutch gear is a 24t thick white gear.  The axle hub can slip
(turn) if there is too much torque on the gear.  Very cool.
