The Exploration Mars pack appears to be out in Europe. There is a picture
at

http://www.lego.com/catalog/eur/productzoom.asp?number=9736 .

SNIP

Looks as though the RCX is built into a (static?) "lander", and there is a
little "rover" (two motors, six wheels, and maybe two of the worm gear
cases
that you can't get in the US anymore). It isn't clear whether the "rover"
is
supposed to be tethered to the RCX by the three electrical cables (two for
the motors and one for the thingy on the front whatever it is) that trail
behind the "rover" in the picture.

SNIP

The picture isn't good enough for me to see what the thingy on the front of
the "rover" is -- I somehow doubt that it is a video camera (would probably
make the set waaaay more expensive than the $54 figure being tossed around
here), but it doesn't look much like anything I've seen before.

It was my understanding that the video camera and the Exploration Mars pack
were to be sold separately. However, the image linked above clearly (IMHO)
shows a videocamera in front of the rover. The big brick in question is the
right form factor to house an el cheapo CCD board camera, and there is a
protrusion on the front side that I can only interpret as a lens (with sort
of a red glare). Also, the cable coming from this box is thicker than the
other wires in the image, suggesting coax or some such to me.

Regards,
Issac.

[snip] (...) The camera is a don't care for me. CCD or CMOS color cameras are (nearly) a dime a dozen. What I am interested in is one of the models clearly has the conveyer belt tracks on large gears. FINALLY! A Technic kit with conveyer belt links! (...) (26 years ago, 9-Dec-99, to lugnet.robotics)
