A student of mine has created a robotic arm that uses almost every piece of
hardware I have to do a simple repitive pick and place routine. (2 RCX's, 4
motors, two touch sensors, two pumps, two cylinders, two valves, one light
sensor, one rotation sensor, etc.) He has come up with the idea of using a
solenoid that he obtained from a VCR to manipulate the valves but the current
draw is 1.2 amps at 12VDC. We measured the current draw of a stalled standard
motor which seems to be 300mA.
What will the output of the RCX handle? I can't afford to replace fried
hardware!
