Check this Lego Dacta set:
http://www.pitsco-legodacta.com/html/red_rover_mars_site_package.html
It uses the Lego Dacta Control Lab, not the RCX, but still, it's a Lego set
with a B&W QuickCam, for a similar Mars exploration mission. Price for this
set is $379. Given that the Lego Dacta Control Lab is $675 (roughly
comparable to a Mindstorms set) I would think that the Mindstorms version of
the Mars exploration set would be significantly cheapter, too. Probably not
$50, but maybe $100 or $150. All it needs is a B&W QuickCam, a CD, and a
long cable. No motors, no new sensors.
