The RIS 1.5 upgrade kit I ordered from S@H arrived yesterday.
Among that handful of new pieces, I like the trans-blue connector pieces the
best. This connector piece provides an easy yet durable way to change the XYZ
orientation (i.e., which side up) in your designs.
The three robots outlined in the new Constructopedia are far more modular. For
example, first you build the "driving base" of the Roverbot; Then you add
either the wheel sets, the legs, or the tracks to it; Then you choose either
the single bumper, the double bumper (i.e., bumper with two touch sensors: one
left, one right), or the light sensor module (pointing either down or
forwards). These modules are all interchangeable.
Near the end, each robots also get several pages of "special features",
containing even more add-on modules, both functional and decorative. For
example, there is a picture of a "table bumper" that lets the Roverbot sense
the edge of a table. (As the technology advances, what had been a "top secret"
project before is now reduced to an half-page "special feature". :-)
Cheers,
Hao-yang Wang
