Tony Sceats asked me about using the PWM output to control 8
actuators.
Assuming a separate supply of 5V, create 2 potential divider
networks from +5v to 0v to give 2.5v at the mid-point. Refer to these
as A1 and A2.
Connect the RCX output to A1 and A2 and using a PIC (or other
prefered microcontroller), take A1 and A2 to two inputs on the PIC.
It should be a simple case of decoding the PWM on these two lines to
get 16 different addressed ON/OFF outputs. These are only available
one at a time though.
Or the PWM on A1 could address an output to be switched on and A2 to
switch it off again. This would allow more than one output at a time.
The outputs could be paired and used in a suitable motor driver
circuit to give 8 directional motors one at a time, or 4 motors
running simultaneously.
How about using this to address 16 multiplexed inputs and take the
power from the RCX input port being used.
Not bad for 1 RCX output + input
Hope this has given some of you some ideas.
