Whoops, almost...
There is a 32K ROM which is "masked" into the micro. It is not erasable, or
rewritable. This is the core firmware with all of the hooks to handle timer
interrupts, read sensors, drive the motors and display, and to upload new
firmware.
That leaves the 32K RAM for firmware, which may be the original TLG firmware
that ships with the RCX. It might also be a LegOS image, or a pbFORTH image.
As far as I know these are the only two replacement firmwares out there.
NQC, BotKit, etc are all built on top of the TLG firmware.
