The RCX doesn't actually have a hard-drive or flash memory or even EEPROM.
It stores its core information in a 16K ROM, which is loaded into a 32K RAM,
which is cleared out when you remove the batteries. When you download a new
program or new "firmware," the text (code) and data actually both go into
RAM only. Check out Kekoa's "RCX Internals" page for extensive hardware
details. <http://graphics.stanford.edu/~kekoa/rcx/>
But as to how big programs you can make, it really depends which firmware
package you use and which programming tool you use on top of that firmware.

| (...) Whoops, almost... There is a 32K ROM which is "masked" into the micro. It is not erasable, or rewritable. This is the core firmware with all of the hooks to handle timer interrupts, read sensors, drive the motors and display, and to upload new (...) (25 years ago, 12-Sep-99, to lugnet.robotics)
