On September 13th, a Volley Ball Contest, the like of which has never been
seen before, will be held at the British Association for Science Annual
gathering at the University of Sheffield. This will not be between humans,
but between 30 centimeter high intelligent Lego robots.
Launched in March at Reading, the Cybernetic Challenge involves teams from
the five top universities in UK and Ireland in the field of robotics
For the contest each University will design, build and program two
autonomous robots which will act as a Volleyball team in an attempt to beat
all others.
Each of the teams will be a using two MINDSTORMS kits with the robosports
expansion pack, and an additional 2 RCX's
The final day of competition is to be held at the octagon centre,University
of Sheffield, on September 13th, at 2.00pm. The five competing teams will be
from the University of Edinburgh, Trinity College Dublin, the University of
Manchester, University College Cardiff, and University of Reading.
Technical support for the competition is being supplied by LEGO UK, who have
equipped each team with the latest LEGO MINDSTORMS Robotics Invention
System.
