Hi Denis!
I use the brick with Mindstorms. It is 100% RCX compatible. I built it into
the small
sized battery box that comes with one of the motor kits. I believe the box
is
available seperately from shop at home, but I don't know the number yet.
It acts like the light sensor, but returns 0 - 100 as half inch increments
instead.
It has a range from about 6" - 50". I abandoned the tried and tested
Polaroid
transducers in favor of smaller piezo ones. The result was a design that fit
in the
battery box with a total power consumption of less that 4mA! You simply
can't
meet those size or power specs any other way!
I will publish the schematics soon. If there is enough interest, I'll
probably make
a circuit board for it. Then, anyone will be able to make one. I had a job
doing
it on prototype board!
Regards,
JB
