# --------------
# Does anyone know what RPM then standard Mindstorm motor does
# at full power. I've have just purchased a ZNAP kit with motor, because
# here in the UK at Argos they have one UK pound off Hover - Plane
# (sorry can't remember the kit number). In this kit I can get
# one motor,
# one
# short wire, one black 9V battery box, 4 gears (of different sizes) and
# some other standard connectors all for 13 UK pounds. This is much
# cheaper than the cost of one motor from the Lego website shop not
# include VAT and p&p.
#
#
# The part number on the ZNAP motor is the same as the Mindstorm
# motors, except that it has '- 002' after it. Are these the same part?
# It does seem to run a little slower than my Mindstorm motors, but I
# think this is just due to not being run in yet.
#
It probably is. If it looks non rectangular, has the connection
for the lead on the top with a groove running behind it between 2 rows
of studs and has a slightly rounded bottom (!) - in otherwords if it's
identical to the Mindstorms motors - then it most likely is.
I'd imagine that the 002 is used for identifying which particular
mould was used.
I'm not sure if Dave Baum's review on lego motors includes rpm information,
you might want to check (it's linked to from
http://www.crynwr.com/lego-robotics).
I seem to recall someone on the Mindstorms webring publishing rpm information
on his site - unfortunately though I can't remember which or where.
If you have enough time to kill you might want to browse through the
webring (http://members.tripod.com/~ssncommunity/webrings/legoms_index.html) and
see if you can track it down.
Please let me know if you find it - I think I might want to link to it from
my own site.
#
# I'm just getting back into Lego (age 24) after buy the Mindstorm kit.
# Any info is gratefully received. Thanks,
#

You might want to read over Stuart Crawshaw's article/recommendations on which
sets to get next. It is at http://www-control.eng.cam.ac.uk/sc10003/addon.html.

Oh. And I have a few things linked to from my own site, which is at
http://skyscraper.fortunecity.com/amd/575/mindstorms.html. (The mindstorms
section is just a collection of links at the moment - this will change.
Oh yes.)

Thanks for the info. I'll take a look at those links later (after work). The motor looks identical on the outside to the Mindstorm motors. Thanks again, Antony. (26 years ago, 31-Mar-99, to lugnet.robotics)
