(...) As for the diode vs FET, the package used for surface mount is going to be the same so there is no size penalty. The only thing I might change is the regulator, on battery powered equipment I would tend to a DC to DC converter like Motorola's (...) (25 years ago, 25-Mar-99, to lugnet.robotics)
