Thanks for the info.  It's funny that you should mention a pulse
recognizer, because one of my side projects is an electric tachometer
for my car (which previously had nothing to do with legos).  I have a
few IC's that take in current pulses, and transforms it into voltage,
which then can be used to either control a tachometer, or now control a
voltage gate/relay that controls sets of motors.  The IC is about the
size of a 1X3 brick, so that wouldn't take up a lot of space.  From
digikey, the part # is LM2917N-ND.  I'm not sure if it'll work (it all
depends on what hz the rcx operates at), but I'll give it a try.
