I put together a two wheeled bot today and was showing my son about • how
one motor could be used as a generator to drive the other motor. Leaving
them wired so that one drove the other the same direction, I twisted my • bot
around on the table, and was surprised how hard it was to turn,

Were you using those thick wheels that come with the Mindstorks kit at
the front - they limit the steering quite a lot, as I found to my dismay
when I tried the 'turnbot' ;) Also - if the RCX was on then the brakes
would have been on also?

Biggest wheels that came with the set.  Wished they were bigger, I
needed more diameter as the two wheels were the only thing of the robot's
that touch the ground.  The RCX is a counterbalance that is the other half
of the drive system, meaning that it is attached to the motors and is slung
below the axle of the wheels.
RCX was not connected at all.
