I finally got my RCX built into a train last night (sorry, no pictures yet).
Initially I didn't think it would fit, the darn thing is so big. But I got it
to fit into a heavily modified version of the boxcar from 4563.
To make it fit I had make the boxcar 2 plates taller (hardly noticeable). The
biggest change though is the chassis, the floor is removed and I had to switch
to the old style train wheels because the axle block isn't as tall. The RCX
lays on its side just one plate above the axle block. The RCX doesn't fit
between the lower door rails so I removed the sliding doors and replaced them
with 14x6 grey plates. The end result is quite pleasing.
To allow the RCX to communicate when it's hidden inside the boxcar I added
trans-red bricks in one end, doesn't seem to impede the IR at all.
So far all I've got it to do is make the train go when you press the touch
sensor, next I want to see if the light sensor can read "barcodes"[1] on the
track so it knows where it is.
