The "ball gear" part is used to transfer rotation momentum to a tilted
axle. In the 8880 Supercar
http://www.lugnet.com/pause/search/?query=8880
it is used to make steering wheel drive. (Actually, it has 4 wheel
drive, steer and suspension.)
It is also used to make a tilting helicopter rotor in 8412
http://www.lugnet.com/pause/search/?query=8412
Without a special piece to transfer the rotation to the wheels (8880) or
to a rotor (8412), the piece is rather useless.
If you wait 'till September, a new set will come which utilizes the
part, 8444

(At least I think it will use the part.)
