Did you compile firmdl yourself?
Did you read the comments at the top of the file?
Did you change the DEFAULTTTY to an appropriate value?
Maybe you have a strange setup and DEFAULTTTY was not set appropriately.
If you get it to work by changing DEFAULTTTY, send me some mail and I will
try to fix the source so it compiles correctly without modification.
