Have you investigated speeding it up by unlinking the 2 sorter levels, ie move the top level for the next ball while the bottom level is still positioned for the current ball? Finally getting around to writing up some MOCs... (3 URLs) I wish I could take credit for this remarkable invention, but in fact I got the idea from (URL) here>. (...) Thanks ! (...) I initially thought I would have to do that, but actually in this design the speed limitation comes from the ball splitter mechanism (in the NXC version it runs full speed without stopping). I have not tried with alkaline (...) (15 years ago, 28-Dec-09, to lugnet.robotics)

OK, here comes another one! (2 URLs) This has a new (?) method of locomotion - it rolls along just by changing its shape. The wheels are fixed to the body and do not rotate.
