Another way of putting it is that if you want to multiply align (stack) worm gears, the number of times the thread goes around the worm gear has to be an integer (or since (...) (...) The number of thread has to be an integer. If not, you could not been able to use multiple worm gear on a same axle. And the thread pitch is determined from the straight gears pitch.
