MOC: Working solar powered rover and geiger counter —Justin Fisher
Hiyall. I just got my Lugnet posting access working again, so I thought I'd post a here's-my-Lego-webpage link. Ignore as you see fit :-) One of my areas of interest is building solar-powered robots (and the necessary custom mindstorms parts to make (...) (19 years ago, 7-Feb-06, to lugnet.robotics) !

(...) Whooaaa!!! very neat stuff here, very good documentation of your projects. I especially like the solar powered RCX with auto-shutdown/resume... Any chance to get the schematics of you Geiger counter interface? Congratulations, Philo (19 years ago, 7-Feb-06, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: MOC: Working solar powered rover and geiger counter —Justin Fisher
(...) Thank you :) I don't have a schematic (more like a few pages of illegible notes :) and the gieger counter sensor isn't something that's easy to make a useful schematic for anyway because of unusual parts that vary in key properties, and the (...)          Re: MOC: Working solar powered rover and geiger counter —Brian Davis
(...) I fear all I can do is gawk in astonishment. Getting a HV sensor to work off the RCX is truly an amazing acomplishment. But you've gone well beyond that, with the solar panel (I'd seen the earlier one on eBay), the powercan... and the (...) (19 years ago, 8-Feb-06, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: MOC: Working solar powered rover and geiger counter —Justin Fisher
(...) This would not be difficult - if you scroll down to the bottom schematic, it is colour-coded into sections according to function, with the last third of the circuit being all that you need to make a switch to activate and run the RCX from some (...)          Re: MOC: Working solar powered rover and geiger counter —Brian Davis
(...) Wow, why do I think this has the potential for extreme pain? In any case, I'm very interested in anything you can provide for the rest of us. You've done some really nice work, that the rest of us would now like to copy :-). (...) That's (...) (19 years ago, 10-Feb-06, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: MOC: Working solar powered rover and geiger counter —Justin Fisher
(...) I have a schematic somewhere, so I'll add that to a page and write up some other info to the website when I get a chance (which will probably not be for a few days). (...) That's a very good point. (I've always designed for sunlight, where (...) (19 years ago, 10-Feb-06, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: MOC: Working solar powered rover and geiger counter —Claude Baumann
(...) Very, very impressive !!! As Philo, I also would like to see more details of your designs. There is one question that is tacking me: When we were working over our "Mars"-project, we tried to use the LEGO solar panels, but we could not extract (...)          Re: MOC: Working solar powered rover and geiger counter —Justin Fisher
(...) Thanks :) As to the power results, I'm not sure how familiar you are with solar cells, so if the following isn't useful, ah well :). The difference in energy you get from sunlight compared to artificial light is massive. Running solar from (...) (19 years ago, 8-Feb-06, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: MOC: Working solar powered rover and geiger counter —Claude Baumann
(...) Hey, your RCX power-on electronics challenged me to try to wake up the RCX by software. This is quite difficult, because if powered down, the RCX not only shuts down all its peripherical devices, but also sends the H8 micro-controller to (...)         Re: MOC: Working solar powered rover and geiger counter —Claude Baumann
Measurements: normal RCX (no sensors, no motors, IR-off, no sound): 33mA in snooze mode : 25mA Not famous, but with solar panels to have or not have 8mA is the question. :) (19 years ago, 20-Feb-06, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: MOC: Working solar powered rover and geiger counter —Justin Fisher
(...) Well I'm certainly impressed that you were able to get a (not insignificant) saving through software alone. (I use NQC and the lego firmware, so I doubt I could implement this - I think I'll wait for NXT before learning a new system :-). OTOH, (...) (19 years ago, 21-Feb-06, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: MOC: Working solar powered rover and geiger counter —Claude Baumann
(...) Here for the gallery: (URL) firmware should be run with RCX 1.0 AC adapter plugged and weak batteries inside. The firmware immediately runs after download. Connect a motor or a lamp to output A. It will start blinking for demonstration. Now (...) (19 years ago, 21-Feb-06, to lugnet.robotics)
